This dual system provides many benefits for the employer / hosting company:
● It helps to qualify people adapting them to the necessities of the
companies, increasing their competitiveness.
● It helps companies to detect talent by acquiring the ideal training.
● Facilitates generational shift.
● In the case of contract, the company receives a grant from the
employment office and up to 100% of its contribution to the social security
system in behalf of the student/employee.
The systems also provides benefits for the apprentice:
● Learning in real working situations, gaining one year of professional
experience
.
● Receiving a wage proportional to the time he/she spends in the company
and contributing already to the Social Security System.
● Improving employability.
To shed some data, the numbers of the dual system since it was implemented in
2014 have been:
● 2.300 students have participated in the dual system.
● 96% of employment rate for students in dual VET.
● 95% of companies satisfied with their participation in the dual system.
● More than 1.400 companies participate in the system
Key Learnings
The dual system has proved to be a successful model to ensure that the training
offer meets the needs of companies, contributing to the employment of young
people and to decrease the gap since a recent graduate starts in a company
until he/she starts to be productive.
It has also shown its potential to detect talent and to motivate students, who are
in touch with companies while studying, being aware of the link between what
they learn at school with what they do in the company.
Although the overall evaluation of the dual system has been positive from all
points of view, during a focus group with companies they did highlight some
