From the employer/mentor perspective, consider the following:

          ● This may be the trainees first experience of employment and they may take time to settle in.
          ● Some trainees may be reluctant to ask for help or clarification therefore it is important that the
              employer / mentor is approachable.

          ● A good mentor is also a good listener.
          ● Providing the right feedback at the right time is an important aspect of the mentor / trainee relationship
          ● Continual monitoring of the trainee's progress against the agreed requirements (either via an
Individual Learning Plan or an Assessment Plan) whether on a formal or informal basis, can ensure
the continual progress of the trainee and also provide for early intervention on any issues that may
              occur.

The learning organisation may also monitor the trainee's
progress. For local employers this can take the form of site
visits which provide a good opportunity to discuss progress
with both the mentor and the trainee.

For longer distance monitoring, digital tools such as Skype,
Whatsapp and Adobe Connect and their like can be used to
monitor progress along with traditional communication
        methods such as telephone.
